Anna’s Harborside Grille Plymouth 5th year Anniversary

Congratulations to Anna’s Harborside Grille for celebrating 5 years in business! With restaurant closing so often it is nice to see one that is lasting as long as this one.

Here is some of the Swampie Buzz

I know I have written about Anna’s Harborside in Plymouth before, but they truly have the best food and service around. Their fish tacos are to die for and their outdoor patio is perfect in the summer! Be sure to check them out!

Went to Anna’s Harborside in Plymouth again (our go to restaurant). We tried their special appetizer this evening: the Wild Game Sampler – Venison and Wild Board sausage with blueberry marmalade, chorizo aioli, crostinis and sliced kasseri cheese.
This is one of the best things I have ever had in my dining experiences. Honestly, it was that good. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend checking Anna’s out before this sampler is gone.

Lunch today at a favorite Plymouth waterfront spot, Anna’s Harborside. We miss the outdoor patio, but hold on, summer is coming. So, it was a high top table inside, not my DH favorite, but comfy enough. And, when the food arrives, it immediately focuses attention in the plate, not the location.
I had the fish tacos, three tacos filled with haddock, veggies and sauce. The dish came with sweet potato fries, another favorite. DH is rather set his ways these days and looks to order the same thing he did last time he was here. That’s been going on for quite a while at Anna’s where the roast beef sandwich is always his choice. Of course, he has leftovers too. Today, we used an online voucher but Annas is a place we go whether or not we have a voucher. Service there is top notch, too!

First time customers & certainly won’t be the last. Super small place that relies on outdoor square footage to accommodate the masses in their high season. We had 7 pm reservations for four & were seated just before 7:30, as they had ‘lingerers’. The place is small, so what can you do? It was clear the hostess & someone I assumed was a manager, were uncomfortable due to the delay & apologized for the inconvenience. I checked their menu in advance & was aware that this eatery also specializes in Greek food, which again, I don’t fancy. Our table ordered buffalo chicken nachos, steak tips (medium), baked scallops, chicken santorini & herb chicken. Sides were mashed, roasted red bliss taters & a mixed veg of carrots, green beans & red peppers. The nachos platter was large & amply covered in spicy chicken & plenty of cheese, tomatoes & onions. Nice start to the meal. My steak tips were cooked perfectly, tender & tasty & you needed no butter or salt on the mashed. My husband loved his scallops, which had a light dusting of crumb & butter topping. Our friends enjoyed their chicken dishes & 3 out of 4 of us brought food home. No dessert to be had last night, but I did order two of their caramel eggnog cocktails, which were great. Service was good & we’ll definitely go back; with reservations (or at an off time to sit at the bar) & also want to visit their outdoor area. If you’ve yet to go, add it to your list!

Anna’s Harborside in Plymouth was the setting for another wonderful lunch. The roast beef sandwich, as pictured, was compressed a bit to cut in in half, otherwise DH couldn’t handle it. It was topped with BLT and cheese. And, half of it came home for another meal. One of my favorites was on the special menu, lamb wrap, so I couldn’t resist. With a smudge of the Greek dressing (it’s so good that I would welcome a bit more) along with tomatoes, lettuce and onion, it is sooooo good! I had sweet potato fries and he had regular fries. And, we had a a Living Social voucher to eat at one of our favorite places! Service by Jill was excellent!

Shaking Crab Cajun Seafood Now Open in Quincy’s Hancock District

Shaking Crab Seafood restaurant has opened up the Hancock District  Quincy Center  April 2017 .  It   features Cajun-style seafood, serving up mussels, lobster, shrimp, and more, shaken up with a spice blend in a bag — and served in that bag. Also on the menu: fries, onion rings, wings, fried oysters, mac and cheese, mochi, and a few other items.    Shaking Crab  also has a location in Newton MA.

How to order

Step 1 Pick your seafood
Step 2 Choose your sauce -Shakin,Gulf, Seoul
Step 3 How spicy?
Step 4 Add your sides

Here are some of their reviews of food in both Quincy and Newton

I got the blue crab with a side of potatoes and it doesn’t come on a plate; it comes in a bag that they shake with all the spices and stuff mixed in. It’s messy food and it’s absolutely delicious. I got mine spicy but they have non spicy options as well. Keep in mind: they do provide bibs, wet napkins, a plastic bag to dump all the shells in, and gloves. Your hands and clothes will stay clean. Stay open to the experience, your face will get messy, but the food is really really good. Or at least, I enjoyed it. And I thought the servers were very nice and attentive. Can’t wait for the official opening of this place. It’s a wonderful addition to the Quincy food scene. Highly recommend giving this place a try

My recent trip to Shaking Crab was quite wonderful! The food was delightful in both taste and fun. The variety of sauces captured my taste buds while the plentiful bags of seafood filled my stomach. In addition, the set up of the restaurant makes for an inviting environment into the Shaking Crab experience. This was awesome, and I don’t even like seafood!

Soeul seasoning is the Best flavor for seafood shakin’ in a bag. My favorites are the crawfish, littlenecks, mussels, fried oysters, and garlic noodles, but definitely don’t forget to add in the corn and sausages into the seafood mix. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and this place hires the best servers to take care of you all night! They are friendly, great at what they do, modern/stylish and happy to serve. No negative vibe from anyone of them. Haven’t once had any bad service every time I stop in. I do have one recommendation for the place. They should label the bags with the flavor and spiciness so when there’s a large party, customers would know which is which because some of the sauces look the same. All in all 5 out of 5!

get the blue crab with the Seoul chili sauce. And the crawfish with the same sauce. It is so good. They are also children friendly. Everyone that I have brought loves it and are returning customers. The best time to go is early Saturday and Sunday before 3. And during the middle of the week. On the weekends I do take out. But I love it. And they remember my face everytime I come here. Can’t wait until they open the new one. Plus there service is great. They move fast and always check on you I don’t care how busy it is.

Sorelle’s Italian restaurant is finally open in April 2017    Sorelle Bar & Grill   opens  up in the former location of long time Italian favorite  Vin & Eddie restaurant on Route 18 in  Abington.   We are finally glad to see it open as it took them a lot longer than anticipated.  While Vin & Eddie’s served traditional Italian food, Sorelle will have more modern cuisine, including baked cod with fried polenta, acorn squash tortellini, and arugula pesto.

The Chef and Owner Andrea  Schnell’s  experience  includes working    upscale  The Winsor House in Duxbury and Square Café in Hingham.  She  spent the last 13 years as Executive Chef of the highly successful restaurant Square Cafe, in Hingham, MA. Here is the Swampie Buzz  so far

The restaurant is beautiful. Very friendly greeters. Our reservation was for 6:15 pm. We got seated right away. The place was packed! Waiter was very friendly. He recommended this beautiful antipasto. I ordered the cod. It came with asparagus and polenta sticks. All yummy! Hubby had the salmon. It came with fingerling potatoes…i forget the veg. I took a bite of his salmon and it was very good. Food presentation is beautiful! The restaurant emptied out quite a bit by 7:30. Waiter let us sit and chat with our friends. No rush to get us out. By 8:15 we noticed that it was packed again so we left. I would go back to try other items on the menu. I hope they change up the menu now and then or add daily specials.

Finally! There’s no need to go into Boston or Providence! The beautiful atmosphere makes you feel like Chef Andrea  brought a little bit of Italy home to us! Delicious flavors yet not too exotic. Appetizers were nothing short of amazing. From the brussel sprouts to the calamari. Short Ribs melt in your mouth! Chicken Saltimbocca was delicious. The service was warm and friendly. Reasonable prices and so close to home. We will definitely be back very soon!

Our server, was fabulous!!! He was very knowledgeable, made recommendations and along with all the staff, was very attentive. The food was amazing!! We started with the roasted pear salad which was delicious!! My husband had the salmon and I, the Chicken Saltimbocca. Both meals  were very generous portions and delectable!! We decided  to take  desserts to go as we were very full. I ordered the tiramisu and my friend  the bread pudding, both desserts were again very delicious! Our whole evening at Sorelle was amazing!!! I suggest everyone try this new amazing restaurant, you won’t be disappointed, ! We will definitely be back!!!

Here is the buzz from their current restaurants

Sunday was my family’s first visit to Casa

Vallarta in Saugus and we cannot wait to go back. We went for my daughter’s birthday and the staff could not have been nicer. Our server was Julio and he truly treated us like family. The band was excellent, the restaurant was alive, just a great atmosphere. Oh did I mention the food was excellent as well. If you want a fun and delicious meal out Casa Vallarta is a great spot.

The food is delicious and everyone working there is nice + really seem to love their job! If waiting for something at Sprint, definitely go get a bite to eat! If not, is worth the trip to try the food. Alcohol & non-alcohol drinks; tv at the bar with the game on, or sit at the dining area! Service is fast & great!!

The drinks are very large and tasty, food was excellent and attentive service. We will definitely be back again! The beef taquitos were exceptionally good. I expected ground beef but instead was big pieces of beef inside. The fried red snapper was cooked perfectly. The salsa and chips with the bean dip are great too!

Review on the Swampie page  on the Falmouth locationMy first review – casa Vallarta in Falmouth. We have a toddler so we haven’t actually eaten in, but their take out has been yummy twice.   We get a you pick 3 combo meal and a side of guacamole, just enough for two hungry parents! The chimichanga didn’t travel well and the shredded pork is spicy, so on our second try we had beef enchilada and burrito and a chicken taco.  We are Colorado folk so the lack of this sort of food, around here, is rough. We are happy this place opened and will for sure go back

An  early New Years Eve dinner at the Casa Vallarta Mexican Restaurant. Thanks so much Dana & Art for our Christmas Gift Certificate! We love it there! The staff is always so friendly! Our steak and chicken fajitas were so Delicious! Mark loves their Presidente Margaritas, and I love their Sangria! We even split a Yummy fried ice cream dessert! We are sooo full and have lots of leftovers for tomorrow night!

Everytime I walk in to Casa Vallarta, I feel like I’m back in Mexico. I love the atmosphere. The service is fantastic, food is as well and they’re very prompt in getting it out even when they are packed (which is most of the time). They make great drinks and I love the complimentary appetizers they offer. They’ve done a great job and it’s nice to have them in Falmouth!

Joe’s American Bar & Grill is a neighborhood staple for traditional American cuisine. At Joe’s, we focus on using the freshest quality ingredients for all our dishes as well as providing a comfortable and fun atmosphere for all our guests.

Could only find one review of the South Shore location

We went to Joe’s American Bar & Grill, at the South Shore Mall today. First things ordered were spicy Bloody Marys. They hit the spot! Just had to ask for olives and our waiter delivered. No apps, though the Ahi tuna tartare and Baja fish tacos were tempting! First we had fresh baked bread and butter on the house. Then, a Chili-Lime Chicken Salad with Blackened Chicken, Southern Fried Chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and, pasta with meatballs for the kid. If only the salad came with more of their charred jalapeños. Good stuff! Our last round of drinks were a delicious Ginger Bourbon Lemonade and Manhattan. Our waiter was great. Highly recommend!

Joe’s American Grill is  part of the  Back Bay Restaurant Group.  Joe’s still operates restaurants in several other Massachusetts locations in including  Newbury St, Boston, Dedham, Framingham and Woburn.

Who knows what will replace it? Davios is coming to the Plaza in the coming months.  Wonder what will replace Joe’s

Here are some reviews of their Whitman Location

Authentic Mexican Food, Tacos de Lengua and Tortas is the best in the South Shore, I highly recommend this place if you want to taste the real Mexican flavor, i feel the spirit of Mexico. Thanks Francisco, outstanding food & service.

Love this place. Wish my waistline would allow me to eat here more often than once in awhile. Atmosphere is like sitting in Grandma’s kitchen, watching her cook up a meal.

If you love Mexican food, go here! The large burrito is a meal in a tortilla. Very fresh ingredients. My husband wasn’t sure if he wanted Verde sauce on his  enchiladas, so the owner said try it; if you don’t like it, have something else, no extra charge! Great guy, great customer service.

Love Avocados! Everything is so fresh and good. Great options for vegetarians, you can get anything without the meat.

Quality food. Good Service. Decent prices. Taco salads and burritos are delicious.

Great service, great authentic food. I have not found a place even close to this good and authentic on the south shore. The owner is very nice and helpful when ordering. The burritos are huge and the tacos amazing. Please go and check it out i want this place around for long time! I promise you will be happy you went.

Absolutely fantastic! If you order chicken, a fresh boneless, skinless chicken breast is cooked to order! Everything is fresh and full of flavor. I’m not a fan of cilantro but there are plenty of non-cilantro options including fresh sliced avocado in lieu of guacamole. Thank you!

I’d rate Avocadoes a 10 out of 5 if I could. It’s the best food ever!! We’ve ordered multiple times and its always amazing. One time my order was messed up a little (had something on it I didn’t want) and it was still the best taco salad I’ve ever eaten. If you love Mexican food you need to try this place.

Coal Oven pizza is cooked different than your typical pizza  t that makes it unique. In coal ovens the temperature is uneven, affecting the texture of the pizza and requiring that the pizzas be rotated constantly, he said, explaining that it’s the texture that makes every slice different.

Awesome pizza! Can’t wait to get back here….had the good fella and my only complaint is that the garlic is in clumps and not spread out more…..otherwise perfection!

Freda’s, a family owned and operated full service restaurant opened on Thursday, January 22, 1987, in the midst of a major snowstorm.  Opening day was a success despite the raging storm outside, Freda’s out of the way location and the building’s storied past.

Going on 30 years of business, we’ve seen the best of times and the worst of times, and have managed to persevere with the help of our wonderful employees.

Freda’s has been a Swampie favorite for many years

Went to a WONDERFUL restaurant last night in West Bridgewater called Freda’s. It was new to me, beautiful inside the waitress was amazing! The deals were great for a Wednesday night! Just thought I’d share this Intel with everyone who is looking to try somewhere new! I will now be a regular at Freda’s it was that perfect!

We are seated promptly and our waitress was right there to take our drink order. Quickly returns, delivers and off she goes.1 sip and somethings wrong. It’s just tonic water & lime, but it ain’t right. We ask our waitress & she assures us it’s is tonic water. We insist it isn’t right & she dutifully goes and checks. She reports the machine is malfunctioning. AND the owner is running out to get some right now to replace your drink. WOW! Steve Stathis, the owner, knows how to take care of his customers.
I ordered the fried chicken breast & the wife ordered chicken marsala.
The fried chicken was fantastic. Perfectly cooked, lightly battered. Moist and tender and the taste is so good. And the sauce they put on it was very good, not relying on salt for flavor.
The chicken Marsala was flavorful & tender. Delicious. The sauce was delightful.
The servings were sufficient to stuff us both & each have take home bags for future eats.
No bad or ugly here.
I have read mixed reviews of Freda’s here. I can say without hesitation this was a very good experience. They have a sign that says something like ‘we don’t serve fast food. We serve good, home cooked foods as fast as we can’. They lived up to it last night!

I told them all about Fredas because of their $10 buck Tuesday deals.
What this consists of is a soup or salad, and a wonderful entree and for $2 dollars more, you can get a scrumptious and decadent dessert!
Our Waitress was Robin who remembered me from my last visit when we were celebrating my parents new purchase of a vehicle. Talk about a memory!
She is friendly, accurate and quick! She cleared away our dirty plates which is a huge plus for me when I dine out. Our drinks were refilled and extra napkins were given without asking and our meals came very quick considering it was busy in there.
Oh yeah and she brought us out some fantastic HOT FRESH FROM THE OVEN ROLLS!
I ordered the chicken and broccoli Aioli over ziti.
My two friends order the identical dishes and that was haddock Nantucket and that was a piece of haddock topped with cheese and then a breadcrumb stuffing on top of that. They both got the same sides which were homemade mashed potatoes and zucchini.
My friends hadn’t been there in a very very long time and as we were eating our salads, one of my friends looked at me and said, “I cannot wait to come back here!!” To which I replied, “you haven’t even got your meal yet! Wait until you try the seafood here!”
The salad dressing is one that I cannot describe because it’s something you have to taste for yourself! So fresh and everything is homemade! The salad is out of this world!
Anyway, we got our meals and my friends absolutely LOVED their food! Everything was hot, fresh and tasty.
We ordered 2 desserts: Oreo mousse cheesecake and a chocolate chip cookie brownie with vanilla ice cream.
The Oreo cheesecake was HEAVEN!!!!!!!! Light, fluffy and delicious!
If you are looking for some down home, real good food that’s completely homemade, head over to Fredas.

My mom remembered that Fredas
has deal called “$10 buck Tuesday”. What this essentially is, are five or six at meals with soup or salad and if you want dessert, it’s an extra $2. again, the desserts are also fixed and not on the regular dessert menu.  I decided to go out of my comfort zone and try something different. They had a dish called chicken pesto with sun-dried tomatoes and cheese tortellini. I am not a fan of pesto at all so I asked the waitress if I could substitute for another sauce. She couldn’t have been more accommodating!! She offered me an alternative of either Alfredo or a red sauce. I opted for the red marinara sauce. I got the salad with the house Italian dressing which is a creamy Italian and is out of this world!  My mom got the dish I believe is called haddock Nantucket but consisted of was a piece of haddock, cheese on top of that and then seafood stuffing on top of that along with a side of carrots and mashed potatoes. She also got a cup of soup with her meal which tonight was, green pepper soup, that she said was incredible and she ate the whole entire cup which she hardly ever does!  My dad loves macaroni and cheese so he decided on that. He also got a tossed salad with thousand island dressing.  By the way, our waitress’ name was Robin. She was PHENOMENAL!!! She was friendly but not overbearing, she was informative but not pushy and she attended to our every need.  Our food was hot, fresh, and a great deal for 12 bucks! Yes, we did get dessert 🙂  I got a chocolate cupcake covered in ganache with a raspberry sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and apparently the chef makes his own whipped topping which was magic to my tastebuds! I’ve never eaten anything like that in my life!   My dad opted for the tapioca putting forth with cream, and my mom got the chocolate mousse at my persuasion.  All desserts were two thumbs up
