71° West Atlantic Steakhouse is now open on beautiful and historic Plymouth Harbor! They are open every day of the week for lunch and dinner beginning at 11:30am. This new restaurant from Hynes restaurant group is located where former top restaurant Issacs’s Seafood was.

Hynes Restaurant Group is excited to debut its newest restaurant, 71° West Atlantic Steakhouse, where the steakhouse menu will showcase a selection of both premium steak & seafood.  Its  namesake is meant to complement its sister, 42 Degrees North in Manomet section of Plymouth.

The restaurant was completely renovated & redesigned top-to-bottom from its original restaurant origins, the interior space at 71° West features a beautiful ocean-facing dining room, main bar with adjacent cozy lounge seating, a spacious function room for large private events and a 16-person private dining room.

We’ve been eager to go here as we used to love the view from Isaacs and live near 42 North so go there often. We knew it would be very busy so we went early and walked over at 5 sharp.

And it was packed already! We were told 45 minutes but also that it was moving fast. The hostess told us to safely avoid a line, maybe go right at 4 when they start dinner service–at least for the next week or so as it’s still super busy. They have a good system where you get a text message and can then see your progress. We started as 7th in line and twenty minutes later were seated.

While we waited, we had a drink at the bar and our preference would have been to eat at the bar, but seats never opened up and lots of others were waiting for them, too. The bar is a lot smaller than the one at Isaacs and it doesn’t wrap all the way around–we were surprised that they didn’t have seats on the backside–which are the ones that would have faced the ocean–that was where we always liked to sit at Isaac’s.

Overall the decor is light and beachy and I think they added even more big windows. There is a small glassed in room at the front that is perfect for small groups of up to 14 or so. And they are using both sides of the restaurant–to the left used to be a function room for Isaac’s and they were seating people there as well.

Service was excellent. If anything, they were overstaffed with people standing around, which worked out well when my friend knocked over his water glass and three people came running over with towels to mop it up! We have both worked in the restaurant business and were impressed by how well prepared they were.

We asked our waitress if there were any items she recommended (I always ask that because sometimes you get good info) and her face lit up and she said they’d done a tasting and the overwhelmingly favorite item was a roasted cauliflower appetizer-crusted in parmesan with a cheese sauce on the side. We decided to try it.

We later agreed that it was our favorite thing we ate that night, too. It was ridiculously good. I took the picture when we’d already eaten half of it. It arrives sitting on a bed of the most delicious cheese sauce. If you’ve ever had the mac and cheese bites at 42–it’s just like the creamy cheese sauce those are served with. I immediately sent the pic to a vegetarian friend and said she needs to get this soon.

The menu is similar to 42 but better, more steaks, more raw bar offerings, more toppings for the steaks. My friend got the 14oz strip steak at $42 and he was a little grumbly about it until he read the fine print and saw that it does come with sides–roasted potatoes and broccolini. He’d thought he had to order the family style shared sides at first–and there are a lot of those. He ordered his steak medium rare and it was overcooked a little. It was more like medium to medium well in parts and we think the kitchen got slammed, because our appetizer came out quickly, but then it was an unusually long wait for our meals.

I had the roasted salmon over crab and shrimp fried rice–and I could have just been happy with the rice, it was so flavorful. Lots of small shrimp, lump crab, fluffy rice and a cucumber wasabi sauce drizzled over it all. The salmon was fine, but the rice stole the show.

We were too full for dessert but were curious about the options, Carrot cake for two at $20, Chocolate cake for two at $20 one other I can’t remember and a chocolate gluten free dessert. We thought the double size and price was odd–it seemed expensive and what if you both wanted different desserts?

Overall, we liked it and will definitely be back soon to try other things.

Service, drinks, apps, entrees, and desserts were all fantastic. I apologize but I forget the waitress’ name but she was phenomenal (and used to work at Isaacs). Honestly, sweet as pie and knew her stuff!!! She even picked up on us nursing our martinis and had them remade to perfection! The owner greeted us upon entry and before and after EVERY course. Even serving us our dessert. We had great conversations with him, our waitress, and the hostess who was came over after she heard we recognized her from 42 degrees. We had a 5 person party ranging from 80 years old down to 15 years old celebrating our oldest leaving for college.
Our order was as follows: (FYI We are PICKY eaters)
Drinks: waters, Shirley temple, dirty martinis, flavored martini, sangria, and a nutty Irishman
Apps: calamari (one of the best we have ever had) and sticky ribs (amazing!)
Dinners: queen prime rib medium rare (cooked perfectly with a killer au jus), two stuffed 2lb lobsters with HUGE scallops and the sweetest lobster among all the other fillings, Mac n cheese with short rib which was gigantic, California roll with was scrumptious, all side dishes were yummy
Desserts: Carmel bread pudding (great), chocolate cake (huge), carrot cake (huge), and two lava cakes (very good with excellent ice cream)
