Jolly Bean Cafe in Plymouth MA 1st year anniversary

Congratulations to Jolly Bean Cafe in Plymouth for their 1 year annivesary!   This cafe has become a go to place for Swampies for breakfast and lunch in the Plymouth area for a quick bite to eat.  Come in for coffee, lattes, muffins, sandwiches and soup!

Here is the buzz

Had breakfast at the Jolly Bean Cafe on Camelot Drive, Plymouth. For me, only a bagel and cream cheese with coffee (very good for a very occasional coffee drinker). It was a last minute and welcome chance to catch up with (granddaughter) Olivia who had bacon and egg on a spinach bagel. A really nice place with some interesting and healthy choices, including some good soups and sandwiches. Definitely a return visit is in order.

My mother and I had lunch at jolly bean cafein plymouth it’s on Camelot drive. A real hidden jem! I had a roast beef sandwich that was on the best ciabatta bread i’ve ever had! she had a meatball sub that was very good. We split a rocky road brownie that was excellent! The decor is cute the place is very clean and the two girls working there I think are the owners and are genuinely kind and interactive with customers. Try it you won’t be disappointed

jollybeancafe

The Jolly Bean Cafe on Camelot Drive in Plymouth is a little hidden treasure! I went today after reading a review (of length…gasp!) and it had me wanting to try it.
I was with my mom and my 5 year old. First it was so clean and adorable in there! A nice long counter with chairs face outside with tables along the other side. In the back is an Adorable nook with a leather couch and table. Perfect for coffee and a paper with a muffin!
We opted for lunch but they do offer breakfast even during lunch hours.
I had the turkey chili with black beans. It was super delicious and full of beans and great tasting ground turkey.
My daughter had the grilled cheese which was gooey in the middle and grilled to perfection!
My mom opted for a turkey sandwich on sourdough that was so ginourmous she took half home!
They have plenty of coffee and tea choices and I had an iced pomegranate green tea.
One of the BEST things was the service!! I suspect it’s the owner who took our order and she was beyond sweet and kind. One of the employees overheard my daughter say she wanted apple juice and was already in the cooler asking bottle or juice box. Really helpful. That same employee on her way out after her shift made a nice exit as we got into our car saying goodbye again and wished us a nice weekend. It went a long way.
We will definitely be back. In fact I think I might sneak there alone next time so I can enjoy a coffee and treat on the couch with my book!!

Breakfast lovers dig into favorite spots in Weymouth & Brockton

Two local  diners got some positive press  about their breakfast & location  in the Boston Globe Uncle Charlie’s Finer Diner in Weymouth  and JJ Cafe in Brockton Breakfast lovers dig into favorite spots in Weymouth & Brockton

Here is a snippit from the article

In Brockton, breakfast is a booming business  at JJ’s Cafe on Main Street, where the sun streams in through the windows of the former pizza place, still crispy-new spotless after almost three years.

Even though owner and chef JJ Fernandes, a Cape Verde native, once cooked for US presidents and other dignitaries at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, he tired of his 30-plus years commuting into Boston.

Now customers travel to him.

“We drove from Boston to come here,” said Pedro Fernandes (no relation) of Dorchester, sharing a table with three female friends. They learned about JJ’s by word of mouth.

“It’s about 25 minutes,” Pedro Fernandes said, “but it’s worth the drive.”

There’s plenty of the regular stuff, like two eggs, two pancakes or French toast, home fries, and sausage or ham ($8). But remnants of creme brûlée French toast lay on a plate shared by Gomes and Jessica Araujo of Dorchester.

“This is just an appetizer,” Araujo said, while the table waited for their “real” orders.

Generations of breakfast lovers are raised on Uncle Charlie’s Finer Diner in Weymouth, open since 1987.

“We’ve been coming here for, like, years,” said Diane Higgins of Rockland, who was there with her daughter, Emily, home for the day from Regis College.

Before coming home, Emily told her mother she wanted a veggie omelet ($9) from Uncle Charlie’s.

“I mean, look how much you get,” Diane said. “The omelets are fabulous.”

“It’ll all be gone, too,” Emily added.

Here is some buzz on Uncle Charlie’s from the Swampies

Have enjoyed Uncle Charlie’s for breakfast for over 25 years. Always great coffee food and service. Everyone is friendly

I just went there for the first time a few months ago… I was back within a few weeks! Their food is great and their waitstaff is extremely knowledgable on the entire menu. I hope to be going back soon!!

And on JJ’s Cafe in Brockton

Jjs Cafè. ..hands down…if I could move in I would…

This morning we decided to check out JJ’s Cafe in Brockton. We were immediately seated by Shane. He took our drink order -coffee for my friend and tea for me. We were pleasantly surprised at how cheery the restaurant was and that there were cloth napkins and a little vase of flowers on the table. Tables were so clean they shined. Another waitress came over with a box of assorted teas for me to choose from. I choose the green tea ( by default as I forgot my glasses and couldn’t read the labels). Coffee and tea was immediately served. Coffee was fresh and piping hot. Shane promptly returned to take our order. Farmer’s omelet for my breakfast companion. The omlet had American cheese, spinach, peppers, onions and tomatoes. It was served with Awesome home fries, peppers and onions and a grilled English muffin. I opted for the cheese omlet, with home fries, peppers and onions and a grilled English mufflin. The food was fresh and delicious. Might I add piping hot. Two different waitresses kept checking in to see if we needed more coffee or tea. Shane was so upbeat and friendly. I told him I was a member of the Hockomock Diners Club. We chatted a bit more. Soon after Shane delivered a complimentary piece of Creme brûlée French toast. It was fabulous!!!
The chef and owner stopped by to see how everything was. I told him I was going to immediately share how wonderful his place was with all of the Hockomock peeps. It seems he was a chef in Boston for many year’s and decided to open his own place. You can definitely tell. Service was spot on and food was delicious. Did I mention that it was piping hot? I will definitely be returning to this hidden gem. Next time I will be ordering that lovely creme brûlée French toast. I almost forgot -they make and sell their own hot sauce!

Surfside Smokehouse has been popular with the Lucky Number Swamp Mob plus they have had 2 recent dinners for wine and beer tastings.

Here is some of the recent buzz

I had an opportunity to sneak away for dinner, jsut the two of us. She grabbed a Living Social deal for Surfside Smokehouse. We had been once before and really enjoyed it so off we went. The restaurant was not very busy. Michelle remembered us from the last time and even recalled our drink order…so great! Jimmy stopped right over to chat and thinks many people don’t realize they are still open. Not only are they still open, but they are hoping to stretch it to past Thanksgiving. And of course SM Lucky 7 will be there in a couple of weeks! We started with fresh oysters and I immediately felt virile and confident. Shelly ordered the brisket and pork bolognaise over thick pasta noodles. Smoky and rich with lean meats in a mild and flavorful tomato sauce. It’s like a good-ole boy married my Nona. I had the restaurant week special, starting with a bowl of spicy chili topped with Fritos (forgot how good they were)..Chili was tasty, but not thick enough with meat and beans for my taste. Then I had the speclal ‘selfie’, chopped brisket, chicken drumstick, amazing slaw and mac n’ cheese. Chicken was very dry, but everything else was tasty and the brisket was sublime. Jimmy and the team have done a remarkable job breathing new life into this location. Let’s continue to turn the Seaside into the Swampside. Looking forward to barbeque on the deck next year!

Fantastic wine pairings dinner at Surfside Smokehouse. The smoke was very apparent in each dish, and each wine complimented the flavors so well! I had not tasted any of them before, and several were pairings I wouldn’t have imagined. They plan to do this regularly on Mondays, and a Swamp Mob is planned. Very reasonably priced, don’t miss it!

New Restaurant Disch’s Route 53 Tavern in Pembroke MA

There is a new restaurant in Pembroke Disch’s Route 53 Tavern  by the management team  of the Fairview Inn in Marhshfield.  It is located at the old location of Bobby Hackett Restaurant.  Here is a bit of the article in the Patriot ledger

.Paul DNew Restaurant Disch's Route 53 Tavern in Pembroke MA isch tried to launch his new restaurant, Disch’s Route 53 Tavern, with a soft opening, but he said it didn’t work.
Since its doors opened a few weeks ago, Disch’s has been packed with diners.
“Social media is very effective in the area,” Disch said.
Booming business isn’t new to Disch, who ran the Fairview Inn in Marshfield with great success for 14 years.
Disch recently closed the popular Brant Rock restaurant after being unable to come to reach a new lease agreement with the building’s owner.

A few Swampies have attended taken a sneak peak

Just had a great experience at Disch’s in Pembroke on rate 53. Sat at the pizza bar . It was like dinner and a show. Great food, excellent service. I would suggest getting there early. Busy by 5:30. They are now open for lunch. Left a card and they were thrilled.

Lunch today at Disch’s Route 53Tavern. It’s very nicely decorated, and the function room is outstanding, with its own restrooms, fireplace and bar. It would be a great place for a holiday party . The menu is still the same as the Fairview, with the addition of a wood fired pizza oven and a few items from the old Bobby Hackett’s, like the Delmonico potatoes pictured here. The chicken pesto pizza was a special, and I do appreciate well-browned cheese on my onion soup! Nice to see Betty, Stephanie and other friendly familiar faces at the new place!

Here is some of the buzz on The Fairview Inn Brant Rock  Marshfield

Fairview in Marshfield A plus for service and food. Baked haddock with ver blanc sauce that is sheer perfection. Real mashed and julienne veg. They are moving to Pembroke soon. Recommend highly.

Lunch at the Fairview Inn at Brant Rock in Marshfield, before the current management departs in October. We love the view here and had a peaceful meal on the deck despite a bridal shower inside. The bloody Marys are served with a jumbo shrimp and plenty of horseradish for my husband, and a giant green olive for me. The bread is warm and irresistible, provided by French Memories Bakery. I had my usual, the black and blue seared tuna appetizer as my entrée. Fresh and perfectly seared. My husband chose the crab cakes Oscar from the brunch menu, with poached eggs and asparagus. Our server, Matt, was attentive and friendly. You would never have known there was a major event happening on the other side of the wall. There must have been a complaint at the table next to us, I didn’t catch what it was, but the server responded with an apology, a smile and a “please have dessert on me” which speaks to the quality of the servers and the quality of the management for making sure they have the discretion to make decisions like that on the spot. We will continue to enjoy the food and friends when they move to the location of the old Bobby Hacketts, but we will miss this special place. Go while you can!

Spent a wonderful week in Brant Rock, ended it with family and dinner at the Fairview. The service was impeccable along with the food, I had the lobster florentine it was fabulous. We also had one of our guests arrive late our food had already been served, the waitress took his order and put it ahead so he was served his meal very quickly. We didn’t expect her to do that, very thoughtful.

Everything is made in house. The menu includes all of the Fairview Inn items such as; Soups, Appetizers, Salads, Seafood, Sandwiches, Pizzas, Pastas, Entrees, and Desserts. The menu will be American and feature fresh seafood. It also incorporates some of the more popular Bobby Hackett’s menu items into the menu.
Disch’s Tavern will also have a children’s menu and the environment will be child friendly. A private function room The Hackett Room, will seat about 75. The Hackett Room will be available for both lunch and dinner functions.

Open for both lunch and dinner 7 days a week. The food hours of operation will be from 11:30AM to 10PM,
Monday thru Thursday, 11:30AM to 11PM Friday and Saturday, and 11:00AM to 10PM Sunday.

HSSC Swamp Mob Featured in Patriot Ledger

Hey we are famous!!  The Hockomock Swamp Supper Club facebook group was featured in the Patriot ledger! They came out to Swamp Mob 6  Johnny  Macaroni West Bridgewater Italian Restaurant.

FRIENDLY FEAST – Facebook supper club brings together thousands of local food lovers
Eighty members of a Facebook group called the Hockomock Swamp Supper Club and Dessert Emporium gathered late last month at Johnny Macaroni’s restaurant in Bridgewater for Swamp Mob #6 – a dinner in a restaurant reserved for group members.

“There is nothing I love more than going to restaurants and eating,” said Pessin, who wore a costume to complement the Italian meal and in anticipation of Halloween. “I wanted to share my stories about restaurants and hear other people’s.”
Unlike Yelp and other restaurant-review sites, the Hockomock Swamp Supper Club and Dessert Emporium focuses on restaurants south of Boston, specifically in the Bridgewater area. Its limited geographic area appeals to people who want to get to know restaurants and people in their area.
“I joined to find restaurants I wouldn’t know about and to socialize,” said Dorothea Lyons, 36, who came to the dinner with her husband, Chris. “All of the restaurants we’ve gone to have been for the first time.”

Check out the whole article and make sure you join the facebook group if you are not part of it already!

Atina Asian Bistro was a Swamp Mob Restaurant earlier this year! Check out some of the local buzz

Had some fellow swampies over for dinner last night. We decided Atina’s Asian Bistro take out would be perfect… And it was. Jumbo coconut shrimp, beef with string beans, Atina’s pineapple fried rice, beef and chicken satay sticks, sesame chicken and a sampler… Food was amazing, leftovers just as good today. If you have not tried this place yet, put it on the list!!

, I’m back from Atina. Here’s my take. The food was good. It didn’t bowl us over, but it was generally good. Where Atina gets lots of extra points is service. I thought the service was very attentive and superbly accommodating (we had one member of our party who always seems to have special needs). They were seemingly very happy to do whatever they needed to to meet our needs and did it with a smile and sense of humor. I would go back.

Today I had a Lunch special (to go) from Atina Asian Bistro in West Bridgewater. I ordered the L1 Luncheon Special which included 2 crab rangoon, a cup of hot & sour soup, a generous amount of General Tso’s chicken, and steamed white rice. It was nicely packaged with plastic soup spoon, fork, dinner napkin, some type of duck sauce, soy sauce packets, and a fortune cookie.

The crab rangoon was full and delicious. The soup was good. The General Tso’s chicken was amazingly yummy. The rice was hot and perfectly steamed. The total cost including tax was a very reasonable $8.83. I could only eat half of this for lunch but the rest will be tomorrow night’s dinner.
